Review of Redemption in Blood: A Novel of the Penitent

I was honored when recently I was contacted by Tara Stogner Wood with a request to review her debut novel Redemption in Blood: A Novel of the Penitent.  I was pleasantly surprised as I began the book and realized it was nothing like any other vampire book that I have ever read.  It was nice to see something new when it comes to this theme.

The book introduces us to Vesper, a total badass vampire.  She is a member of the penitent and is investigating a murder.  During the investigation, she meets Decker, a detective working on the same case.  She ends of being stuck with him by her side, and that turns out to be not so bad afterall.  Little do they know they are going to learn a lot from each other.

We are also introduced to some other awesome characters.  Marcus is Vesper’s protective brother and he will stop at nothing, not even black magic, to make sure that his sister stays safe.  Cain is a hilarious character in the story, he literally had me laughing out loud.  He always says what is on his mind and has an awesome sense of humor.  Lori is the witch and plays a very big role in helping solve the crime.  Howard and Victor are the villains and trust me, you will want to reach into the book and punch them.

This novel gave me everything I love in a book.  Tara did a wonderful job in her descriptions.  I actually felt like I was able to picture every scene.  She didn’t fall short on describing the characters either.  I felt like I really got to know them.  There was just the right amount of background, action, sex and dialogue to create a nice balance.  I know that I am already looking forward to the next book in the series.

Does this sound like the book for you?  Well I have some great news!  Tara Stogner Wood has been nice enough to give away 2 free copies!  All you have to do is follow the link below and you will be entered to win! You will have a few days to enter so spread the word!

Review of Destine (The Watcher’s Trilogy #1)

I recently had an opportunity to read the debut novel by author Katherine Polillo, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint!  As soon as I began the first chapter I couldn’t stop.  I was immediately sucked into the world of seventeen year old Michelle Cross.

The novel is set in the very small town of Shady Lane, New Jersey.  Michelle did not have the perfect childhood, but she had her best friend Cami.  Her mother was suffering from schizophrenia, so she was no longer an active part in Michelle’s life and Michelle had already spent the last five years of her life hiding this diagnosis.  As the novel begins, Michelle is getting ready to start her senior year of high school.  She expected it to be like all the rest, but boy was she was wrong!

There is a new student in town and Michelle has no idea how much Gabriel is going to change her life.  Any sense of normalcy she once felt will soon be gone.  As she gets to know Gabriel, Michelle’s world is thrust head first into the battle between good and evil.  There is no way for Michelle to predict what is going to happen next in her life.  Her best friend whom was once by her side at all times isn’t around anymore and everyone at school is acting really strange.  The fate of humanity is in Michelle’s hands.  Will she be up for the challenge? How is she going to deal with the literal Hell that is suddenly all around her?  What will happen to her and the ones she cares about if she doesn’t succeed?

I totally loved this book from start to finish.  It was one of those books that captivates you.  I didn’t want to go to sleep last night because I was curious what was going to happen next.  (Okay, I was dying to know what was going to happen).  The characters were wonderfully well written.  I was able to picture them in my head and fall in love with them.  I became emotionally attached to Michelle and I could actually feel what she was going through.  Destine did everything a first in a series should do.  It sucked me in and left me wanting more in the end.  Great job on your first novel Katherine and congratulations on getting it out there!

If you love a great story that will keep you on your toes and leave you begging for more, look no further.  This is the book for you!
